eco DESIGN for aviation systems
Eco-Design for Airframe (EDA) is one of the six ITDs (Integrated Technology Demonstrators) in Clean Sky. Points of emphasis are the ecological analysis of aviation-specific materials and processes over their entire life cycle for identification of the most ecologically favorable alternatives and their further optimization, and the establishment of an eco DESIGN approach based on this for minimizing the ecological impact. Alternative fuels in air transport
In addition to bio-based fuels, the development of innovative processes is also being monitored. These include new methods of synthesis, in which CO2 and H2O are converted into fuels (gasoline, diesel, kerosene, methanol, methane) by means of renewable energy in a highly efficient process of high-temperature water vapor electrolysis, with an expected energetic efficiency factor of around 70 percent.
Lightweight design solutions
The development of new materials and production processes for aircraft components, with simultaneous evaluation of the ecological impact of existing and future components. This also extends to the analysis of structural helicopter components, component analyses, comparison of structural elements, choice of processes, and the optimization and recycling of components.
