Validation of simulated pass-by according to ISO 362-3

Project goals

The ISO 362-3 standard, which has been valid since 2016, describes the measurement of the LUrban type testing level, consisting of a combination of the simulated pass-by in a test facility and a real pass-by on an external noise test track in accordance with Part 1.

In the test facility, the drive noise of the vehicle is measured and combined with the pure tire road noise of the external noise test track.

Using a validation method of the standard, the accuracy of the simulated pass-by in the test facility (indoor) was examined and compared to the values of a real pass-by (outdoor) on a test track.

Project result

The results of the validation method showed a good correlation between the real and simulated pass-by. The required tolerances within the validation are met by all tested vehicles. The comparison of the LUrban type testing level showed only very small deviations of a maximum of 0.4 dB for all vehicles.
