Fraunhofer IBP supports the Fraunhofer Network “Wasserstoff” (hydrogen) with its expertise

By developing hydrogen technologies to market maturity within a short period of time, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft aims at making a contribution to the energy turnaround and has therefore set up the Fraunhofer Network “Wasserstoff”. The research activities of over 20 member institutes are pooled here. The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP is also a member of the network.

From developing materials and systems and production processes, through applications in the energy sector and industry, right up to cross-cutting issues such as safety - the know-how contributed by the member institutes is extremely wide-ranging.

Within the network, the role of Fraunhofer IBP's Department of Life Cycle Engineering is to evaluate the sustainability of hydrogen and its infrastructure. Applying sound scientific methods, our scientists study the environmental effects occurring along the entire value chain and throughout the complete life cycle. Their work also includes, for example, calculating life cycle assessments and carbon and water footprints, as well as carrying out cost analyses and evaluating social profiles.
