EnerKey

Collaboration and subtask management in the EnerKey megacity project “Energy as Key for the Sustainable Development of Megacities Johannesburg”

In the EnerKey project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), solutions to rising energy consumption in so-called megacities are being sought based on the example of the Gauteng region in South Africa, including the two major cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Fraunhofer IBP is developing tools to assess the energy efficiency of residential buildings, public buildings and urban districts. Diverse measures such as energy performance certificates for prominent buildings and energy-efficient demonstration projects are being taken to raise public awareness of energy issues. The project is being carried out in close cooperation with various South African organizations.
