China has enormous market demands and opportunities in the areas of smart and ecological construction and urban development. However, the supply of relevant technologies and approaches is lagging behind - innovations and developments are urgently needed. As part of the Fraunhofer Project Center for Urban Eco-Development, the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP and the School of Design at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) will cooperate to drive new developments in these areas. The Project Center will be an important innovation and research platform that will provide significant momentum for future developments from which both partners will benefit equally.

The Fraunhofer Project Center for Urban Eco-Development at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is jointly led by the Fraunhofer IBP and the Design School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Among the focus areas are Smart City, Green Building and Urban Management. The Project Center will also actively promote the transfer of research results into applications as well as the development and valorization of related industries in China.

Perspectively, the Fraunhofer Project Center is also to be used as an international cooperation platform in the field of urban eco-development and should offer a comprehensive opportunity for cooperation with Chinese, German and other international scientists.
